Soulful Sound Blending

The first Town Hall Bakery concert of the season will be an offering of creative songwriting, soulful sound blending, astonishing classical guitar and rich interpretations of favorite folk and rock songs. Jenny Bienneman, Jeanne Kuhns and George Sawyn will delight audience members at the intimate, yet funky venue in Jacksonport on June 20 beginning at 7 pm.

Bienemann is a wonderful Chicago folk singer with hip guitar riffs, vocal overlays and idiosyncratic pacing. Mining rich material from the often-overlooked moments of everyday life she sings with a lilting, ethereal voice. She is delightful and innovative, creating a full imaginative sound, layering voice, guitar, kalimba and piano.

Door County’s Jeanne Kuhns sings a “mix of blues, smokey jazz and modern singer songwriter folk,” according to Crow and Wolf Music, which carries her album Lost Moth Found produced by Hans Christian of Sister Bay. Kuhns has been called a mix of Laura Nyro, Joni Mitchell and an acoustically inclined Bonnie Raitt. About to release her new CD, Ghost Ranch, she will give Town Hall Bakery audience members a taste of her upcoming CD release concert, which is scheduled for June 28 at Woodwalk Gallery.

George Sawyn, a classical guitarist from Chicago, has played in a number of bands for over 30 years. At the Town Hall Bakery concert, he will play his astonishing original instrumental pieces, as well as enrich Kuhn’s vocals. The two of them perform off each other’s sound creating wonderful interpretive music. Kuhns says, “Sawyn’s music makes me weep; it is so beautiful and wraps my heart with melody.”

The Town Hall Bakery is located on Highway 57 in Jacksonport. Concerts start at 7 pm and are $10.
