Southern Door Girls Basketball Coach Steps Down

Jason Shimon has resigned as varsity girls basketball coach at Southern Door High School due to personal reasons.

“At this time it’s in my best interest to step down as varsity coach,” said Shimon. “I hope to continue being involved with youth basketball, which I’ve enjoyed for many years. I would like to thank the Southern Door School District for the opportunity to coach the varsity team the past two seasons, and I wish the girls program continued success.”

Shimon led the Eagles to a 35-14 record in his two seasons as head coach. The Eagles rose to among the state’s top eight teams in Division 3 in 2017-18, when they won a regional championship, advanced to the sectional finals and finished 21-5 overall. They also won their first Packerland Conference title that season in a span of 10 years.

“We truly appreciate the commitment that Jason made to our girls basketball program,” said Southern Door Activities Director Korey Mallien. “He deeply invested a lot of time and passion into preparing his teams to compete at the highest level possible. We wish him the best with his future endeavors.”

The hiring process will start immediately to find a new coach for the 2019-2020 school year, said Mallien.
