Southern Door Seeking $4.5 Million for Energy Efficiency Projects

The Southern Door School Board held a public hearing on Nov. 6 on a resolution authorizing general obligation bonds not to exceed $4,500,000 for energy efficiency purposes, but the public did not show up. Nick Laubusch of the design/build/energy firm McKinstry explained that the schools financials “says to the public you’re fiscally responsible with money and you get good value out of it.” He explained that the energy efficiencies include air handler upgrades at the elementary and middle schools, roofing upgrades, domestic hot water heating system upgrade and LED lighting upgrade in the school as well as lighting upgrade for the auditorium. The public hearing opened a 30-day petition period for the public to comment on the project. The comment period ends Dec. 6.
