Southern Door Swimmers Heading to State

For the third year in a row, Sturgeon Bay Co-op’s Brock Aune and Luke Bousley will participate in the Division 2 state swim meet.

Aune, a Southern Door senior, will participate in four events Friday and Saturday at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Bousley, a Southern Door junior, will swim in two relays.

“To be honest, I don’t really know that this one will be too much different than the last two,” Aune said. “But this one will just be more about finishing up my high school career in a positive way.”

Aune qualified in the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard breaststroke. He will also team up with Bousley, Jacob Norton and Ethan Almstadt in the 200-yard freestyle relay; and Almstadt, Norton and Connor Thompson in the 200-yard freestyle relay in a pool record time of 1:32.77. Norton and Drew Rass also qualified in the 100-meter breaststroke.

“This time my nerves will be a little less,” Bousley said. “It will allow me to enjoy the moment more.”

Aune returns after finishing third in the 50-yard freestyle and second in the 100-yard breaststroke at last year’s state meet. Aune enters this weekend’s competition with the third-fastest time in the breaststroke and the fourth-fastest time in the freestyle.

“I’ve struggled a little over this season, but things are finally starting to fall into place, which I’m very pleased to see,” Aune said. “I am hoping to keep this same energy going into next week.”
