Southern Door to Host Farm-to-School Program

The Southern Door County School District has been selected as a new host site for the Farm to School AmeriCorps Program, a national service program that seeks to improve children’s nutrition through farm-to-school activities, build community connections, create future leaders, and support sustainable farm-to-school programs that encourage healthful behaviors and improve school food environments.

“The AmeriCorps program will provide our district with additional resources to continue the leadership with our Farm to School program,” said Superintendent Patricia Vickman. “We are looking forward to the many networking opportunities we will have with other AmeriCorps Farm to School programs at the state and federal levels.”

The Southern Door Farm to School Committee comprises co-directors Vickman and Rich Olson; community representatives Moriah Brey, Toni Sorenson and Cami Pregger; and school district staff members Jessica Meacham, John Swanson and Sara Gray, who is the Farm to School planning coordinator.
