Southern Door Wins School Health Award

Southern Door Elementary was presented with the Wisconsin School Health Award during the Building the Heart of Successful Schools Conference on Dec. 5. The award was accepted by Elementary School Principal Cory Vandertie, Behavior Interventionist/Coach Sheila Wienke, and Speech and Language Pathologist Sara Kokko.

The Wisconsin School Health Award is a way to recognize and celebrate schools with policies, programs, and the infrastructure to promote and sustain a healthy learning environment that ensures each child is healthy, safe, engaged, supported, and challenged.

Southern Door Elementary completed an assessment to gauge their activities in the following three areas: food, physical activity, and overall health and well-being. Activities such as the school garden, family fitness nights, PBIS program, food service tasting sessions, and providing indoor wellness activities before school and during recess earned extra points for the school based on the number of students, staff, and families involved.
