Southern Door Wrestlers 3rd at Cutler Classic

Southern Door’s wrestling team placed third out of 18 teams competing Saturday at the Cutler Classic in New London.

“We are showing steady improvement and wrestling with more urgency and confidence,” said Eagles head coach Jerry Englebert. “There’s room for improvement, but the growth in the last few weeks has been very fun to be a part of.”

Hayden Jeanquart was Southern Door’s top finisher, winning the championship at 160 pounds. After an opening-round bye, Jeanquart  won his matches on a technical fall and two pins.

Jonas Jandrin finished second at 182 pounds with a bye, two pins and then losing the championship match to Michael Alexander of DePere, who placed third at state last season.

The Eagles’ other top finishers included Mason Motquin (120) and Trevin Veeser (138) both finishing third and Wyatt Wilke (132) placing fourth.

Warrior Cup Invitational

Southern Door’s girls wrestlers competed Saturday at the Warrior Cup Invitational in Muskego, where the Eagles had only three wrestlers compete and placed 10th out of 33 teams.

Sydney Turner was Southern Door’s top finisher, placing second at 132 pounds. Turner won her first four matches all on falls and then lost to Mineral Point’s Kylie Rule, the defending girls state champion at that weight class.

As for the Eagles’ other two girls wrestlers, Nora LeFevre (107) finished third and Lilly Wrenn (114) placed fifth.

Coming up Thursday for Southern Door’s wrestlers is their only home meet of the season when they will host Oconto, Peshtigo and Sturgeon Bay/Sevastopol to wrap up their conference season. Duals are scheduled to start at 5, 6:30 and 8 pm.
