Spider Award Winners

Baileys Harbor photographers Steven and Arlene Stanger were recently presented with nominations and awards in the amateur category of the ninth annual Black and White Spider Awards on Oct. 18, which was viewed by photography fans around the globe via webcast.

Steven received a third place award (Honor of Distinction) for his photo “Light from Above” and an honorable mention with “Sunrise Through the Trees,” both in the Abstract/Amateur category. He also received three nominations in the Abstract/Amateur category and one in the Nature/Amateur category. Arlene received an honorable mention in the Nature/Amateur category for her photo “Garden Wall” along with nominations in each of the Fashion, Nature and Wildlife/Amateur categories.

The awards’ international jury included representatives from The Royal Photographic Society and photographic galleries in Brussels, Amsterdam, Stockholm and Florence who honored Spider Fellows with 298 title awards in 14 categories.

“It is an incredible achievement to be selected among the best from the 8,508 entries from 73 countries that we received this year,” said Basil O’Brien, director of the awards.
