Spring Clean with Pen Players

Peninsula Players will host its annual Spring Clean Day on May 9 at 9 am. This annual event kicks off the re-opening of the theater’s campus and volunteers are needed to help prepare the Players property for the 2015 season.

In a few short weeks the Peninsula Players acting company and technicians will arrive from across the country to begin rehearsing and building the plays for Players 80th season. The acting troupe, carpenters, designers, interns, and other company members live onsite in various cabins and rooms scattered around the Players property.

“The Players grounds are enjoyed by more than 38,000 visitors each season and are home to Players company members who actually live on site,” said Audra Baakari Boyle, Players Business Manager. “Housing units are over the old scene shop, near the bay, above the office and there cabins scattered all over the property. Company members perform or work backstage at night, then retreat to their bunks to rise the next morning for breakfast in our lodge and start their work day on the next show.”

Volunteers will join the Players’ staff and core group of volunteers, the Broom Squad, to spruce up the dorm rooms and grounds in preparation for summer’s visitors. Main activities include dusting and general cleaning of the rooms as well as outdoor projects, such as removing fallen branches, cleaning gutters, raking and unpacking lawn furniture from winter storage.

“The Players greatly appreciates the efforts of each volunteer,” Baakari Boyle said “We couldn’t do all of this in one day without their help. Many hands make for light work and with each volunteer chipping in we generally wrap up projects just before lunch time.”
