Spring Exhibition to Open

The community is invited to attend a reception on May 31, 5 – 7 pm, at the Door County Community Foundation to open its spring exhibition featuring works by artists Cheryl Stidwell Parker and Sally Everhardus.

The Community Foundation’s reception is being coordinated with the opening of “Drawing: A Group Invitational” at the Miller Art Museum that same evening. Guests are encouraged to visit Sturgeon Bay and drop by both opening receptions.

Stidwell Parker retired in 2002 and settled in Baileys Harbor with her husband, Stephen Lavell. Together they established Chez Cheryl Art space, home to the annual Door Prize for Portraiture. She has been painting full time since 2003 and continues to pursue new challenges in water-based oils, found object collage, photography and drawing.

Everhardus planned on a career illustrating children’s books. While putting herself through school at the University of Michigan, Everhardus worked as an illustrator.

Everhardus had to continue working at a “real” job, but the creativity always poked through with art classes and projects. Now a warm weather plein air painter, winters are spent in drawing and fabricating art with tongue-in-cheek humor or social commentary.

Her work is represented locally at Woodwalk Gallery, and her work will appear in the 2014 Door Prize for Portraiture and Egg Harbor’s “Eggstravaganza.”

Morag Hornsby and her team at Serves You Right Catering will serve refreshments.

Each quarter, different Door County artists will be invited to exhibit their work. The Gallery is normally open to the public 8 am to 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday. For more information, visit GiveDoorCounty.org.
