Spring Florals

Painting by Barb Sweeney

The April art exhibit at Glas Coffeehouse in Sturgeon Bay invites the community to enjoy the colorful watercolors of Barbara Sweeney and Sherry Mutchler at an opening reception on April 9, 5 to 7 pm.

The florals, butterflies and fanciful bovines by Sweeney and Mutchler welcome the long-awaited green of spring. Since ‘Glas’ in Gaelic is ‘green,’ entertainment will be provided by the bagpipes of Keith Mutchler.

Sweeney and Mutchler are fascinated with the changing nature and special flora and fauna of Door County. Both artists are self-taught and have exhibited at the Door County Art League Gallery, have studied with Ed Fenendael of Morning Mist studios and serve on the board of the Women’s Fund of Door County.

Sherry Mutchler

Sweeney currently exhibits at Greco Gallery in Sturgeon Bay, and her Sunrise Shores studio on the shore of Lake Michigan. She describes watercolor as “a journey into a world which is gentle, quiet, joyful, and exciting.” For more information about Sweeney, visit barbarasweeneyart.com or find ‘Barbara Sweeney Art’ on Facebook.

This year, Mutchler will show at the Door County Art League Gallery in Fish Creek and at the Meadows Gallery Sister Bay in May. Mutchler retired as a school counselor to Door County with her husband, Keith, a figurative clay sculptor (also exhibiting at The Meadows in May). “I love creating stories in my art and inviting curiosity in the viewer,” said Mutchler. For more about Mutchler find ‘Door County Watercolors’ on Facebook.

Glas is located at 67 E. Maple Street in Sturgeon Bay.
