Spring into Reading

Gibraltar Secondary School welcomes spring with several school and community activities that promote reading amongst children, teenagers, and adults. All community members are invited to the Community Wide Book Fair and the Community Build-A-Book program.

The Community Wide Book Fair runs May 4 – 14 in the Gibraltar Secondary School library, 8 am – 5 pm daily (including Saturday, May 9), providing convenient access to the fair collection for students, teachers, parents, and community patrons. The fair is the largest custom book fair offered by Scholastic, bringing thousands of fiction and non-fiction books and art supplies within our community’s reach. The book selection ranges across all grades and ages, satisfying a wide array of book browsing and summer reading needs. All sales benefit Gibraltar in books and technologies.

The Community Build-A-Book is scheduled for May 7, 4 – 8 pm, allowing students, parents, grandparents, and community members to create a small book using a bookmaking kit. This is a fun opportunity for hands-on art with kids, family, and friends. In addition to making memories, participants have access to the complete book fair collection during the event.

These community outreach events are coupled with a Secondary School Reading Contest that runs April 15 – May 15. Readers can win individual and group prizes from the library and share their favorite titles with peers while also completing various English Language Arts assignments.
