St. Luke’s Episcopal Church Celebrates Parish Status

The congregation of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church at 316 Smith Drive, Sister Bay, was formally accepted into union with the Diocese of Fond du Lac as a full-fledged Parish congregation at the 133rd Annual Convention in late 2007.

St. Luke’s was born from a committed group of Episcopalians determined to have accessible Episcopal services in northern Door County, and who were willing to contribute time, talent, and treasure to bring that about. They were led originally by a retired priest from the Diocese of Chicago, the Rev. Joe Mazza.

In the intervening years, the spirit of the small group continued to permeate the growing church. Each added his or her gifts and talents to the vision of the Episcopal Church in northern Door County. The enthusiasm spread, and ministries were facilitated by faithful people.

Now an official parish, St. Luke’s remains focused on its special relationship and ministry to Scandia Village and also on community needs throughout Door County, the nation, and the world.

Holy Week services at St. Luke’s will be held at the church as follows: Good Friday at noon; Great Vigil of Easter on Saturday at 8 pm; Easter Sunday at 10 am. The Easter Sunday Worship service will be followed by an informal brunch to which the public is invited as guests.

In addition to regular Sunday worship services at 10 am, St. Luke’s offers a variety of Christian formation, Bible classes, mid-week worship, lay ministries, and social events.
