StageKids announces auditions (for high school students only) for the production of Columbinus, directed by Third Avenue Playhouse (TAP) co-artistic director Robert Boles. Auditions are scheduled for Dec. 7 from 12 – 2 pm at TAP.
Columbinus, a play sparked by the April 1999 massacre at Columbine High School in Littleton, Colorado, probes the psychological warfare of alienation, hostility and social pressure that goes on in high schools across America.
Created by The United States Theatre Project, Columbinus weaves together excerpts from discussions with parents, survivors and community leaders in Littleton as well as diaries and home video footage to bring to light the dark recesses of American adolescence.
Performances of Columbinus will be April 25 & 26. Each performance will be followed by a talk back featuring parents, teachers, community leaders, the director and cast. To be put on the audition list call 920.743.1760 and leave a message.
StageKids also announces Theatre Lab, intended for middle and high school students, begins in January. For six weeks, from Jan. 22 – March 1, students will meet twice a week on Wednesdays (4 – 6 pm) and Saturdays (12 – 2pm) working with professionals from the Stage Door Theatre Company.
The final class on March 1 will be a public performance by lab students performing pieces worked over the course of the six-week lab. Tuition is $125 and scholarships are available. To register, call 920.743.1760 or stop by TAP, open Tuesday through Friday from 12 – 5 pm, at 239 North Third Avenue in Sturgeon Bay.
