Start the New Year at Newport

If getting more exercise is one of your 2015 resolutions, then join others for a New Year’s Day hike at Newport State Park. Hikers will meet at lot #1 at 10 am and plan to hike a distance of about two miles. The hike will be led by Newport Wilderness Society members Jack Travis and Dick Heil. Remember to dress for the weather conditions that day. The hike will be on trails where snowshoes are permitted, so bring a pair if the snow is deep. The hike will be cancelled if the National Weather Service issues a warning (i.e. winter storm warning, wind chill warning, blizzard warning) that is in effect at the time the hike is planned. And along with ringing in the New Year, a 2015 Wisconsin State Park vehicle admission sticker is required. The park office will be open New Year’s Day in case you need to purchase a sticker.
