Steel Band Concerts Continue at Birch Creek

The Birch Creek Percussion & Steel Band concerts continue. The annual family friendly Drumming Comedy and Pops concert is July 19 and features faculty members Dan Moore, Brad Stirtz, Robert Chappell and Program Director Ben Wahlund.

Steel pan is a homegrown Trinidadian sound and thanks to a partnership between Birch Creek and two government programs, The Trinidad Music Literacy Trust and The Ministry of Art and Multiculturalism, Birch Creek faculty member and Steelpan Director Liam Teague was able to secure funding for two students from Trinidad and Tobago to attend the session this year. You can hear them in action on July 20 during the “Steel” The Thunder performance.

Classic big band music returns from July 24 through August 17. “Swing Into Summer” on July 24 with music by classic jazz musicians such as Don Gibson, Quincy Jones and Dizzy Gillespie. On July 25, enjoy Essentially Ellington, Basie & Miller.
