Still Time to Register for Master Naturalist Training

Three organizations committed to protecting Door County’s natural and cultural heritage are partnering to offer a Master Naturalist training course. Beginning Jan. 10, participants will meet Fridays in January and February for all-day class instruction and winter field trips. Register at wimasternaturlasit.org.

Certification as a Wisconsin Master Naturalist is optional and involves Friday attendance and 40 hours of volunteer service at an organization that focuses on Wisconsin’s natural and cultural heritage.

Because of the season, more than half of the instruction will be indoors with field trips planned to locations like Shivering Sands, Baileys Harbor, a Niagara Escarpment site and short outings at The Clearing’s grounds. Guest speakers include Charlotte Lukes, Roger Kuhns, Mike Grimm (TNC), Mike Schneider (The Clearing), Terri Cooper (Land Trust) and DNR staff Nick Legler (Fisheries) and Bill Ruff (Forestry).

The $250 tuition is payable to the UW-Extension at wimasternaturlaist.org. For more information contact Harris at 920.868.3258, [email protected] or Instructor Karen Newbern of The Ridges Sanctuary at 920.839.2802, [email protected].

Registration closes Dec. 27. If unable to register online, please contact Martha Martin, WIMN State Office, 608.262.0020, [email protected].
