Stories from the Paper Shop at Woodwalk

Carol Sills applies a stencil of handmade paper to the “Water Goddess” image.

One of the students of Woodwalk’s “Paper Intensive” class, Carol Sills, has been making paper to integrate into her paintings. The subject matter of the pieces is “story-telling” about Nordic roots and ancient Scandinavian perceptions of nature embodied in the gods and goddesses.

Sills has Icelandic roots and has illustrated the ancient water goddess, a water mother who is represented in the creation myth, for the Peninsula Art School’s new exhibit, “Norse Mythology, the Muse.” The school will host an opening reception for the exhibit on October 2 beginning at 4 pm.

The Paper Shop at Woodwalk will be open until October 5. For more information call Kirsten Christianson at 920.559.0585.
