Strivers Compete in Nationals

The YMCA’s Strivers Gymnastics recently headed to Milwaukee for Nationals. The Door County YMCA Strivers Gymnastic Team will compete at the YMCA Gymnastic Nationals June 28 – July1 in Milwaukee at the Frontier Airlines Convention Center in cooperation with Summerfest.

Nineteen Striver Gymnasts qualified for the National Meet. To qualify, gymnasts had to receive a qualifying score throughout the competitive season. Sixteen gymnasts chose to participate in the meet: prep optional level gymnasts Sophia Pollman, Tatiana Dlogireff, Kayla Counard, Ellie Helm, and Demi Ploor; Level 3 gymnasts Alexa Nelson, Breanna Kunz, and Alexis McCarthy; Level 4 gymnasts Katie Frank, Mya Ploor, and Reetika Jandu; and Level 7 gymnasts Abby Thiede, Jackie Mosgaller, Ally Dickson, Bobbi Joe Laurent, and Jenna Seiler. Thiede, Pollman, Dickson, Helm, Seiler, Mosgaller, and Laurent are returning to Nationals for a repeat visit.

Striver gymnasts that qualified and chose not to compete are Level 3 gymnasts Katie Peot and Emily Ulberg; and Mercedes Bissen, prep optional level.

The top six girls are awarded medals in each event for each level of competition.

The Strivers Team is coached by head coach Nikki Pollman and her staff Amy Gamble, Mikki Rankin, Gerritt DeJonge and Tom Utzinger.
