Strivers Gymnasts Capture 4 Titles, 2 Team Trophies, 45 Medals

The Door County YMCA Strivers Gymnastic Team competed in the YMCA State Tournament this past weekend in Manitowoc.

Miya Eliyha, Level Seven gymnast, won gold in the all-around competition and on beam. Submitted.

Capturing state titles for the Strivers were Level Seven gymnast Miya Eliyha, XCel Gold gymnast Stevie Routhieaux and Level Two gymnast Sophia Sternard. Eliyha won a gold in the all-around (AA) and on balance beam; Routhieaux won gold on floor; and Sternard won gold on vault. A highlight of the Striver season was Eliyha went undefeated all season.

Silver trophies and medals went to:  Level Seven – Eliyha for vault and bars; Level Two – Sternard for bars; Silver – Abby DeClark for bars, Lilliana Carmody on vault, bars and AA, Desirae Guilette on bars and beam; Gold – Julia Gregory on bars and Kylie Newton on bars.

Bronze trophies and medals went to:  Gold – Kylie Newton for beam and AA; Silver – Guilette in AA and Carmody in AA; Level Six – Chloe Maccaux on floor; and Level 2 – Lauren Pratt on floor.

The Strivers won 23 individual medals from gymnasts placing in the  top 30 percent of their divisions. They are: Level Two – Alexa Jiminez-Seyfer, Shylee Asher, Sternard, Pratt and Jozlynn Burlo; Level Six – Alaina Schopf, Mallory Barker, Maddie Barker and Calla Hansen; Silver – DeClark, Claudia Garcia, Carmody and Guilette; Gold – Gregory, Eliena Kerscher and Newton.

The Team came home with two team trophies. The XCel Silvers won the second place team trophy while the XCel Golds won the third place trophy. All of the Striver levels were within trophy contention. The team trophies were separated at times by one one-hundredth of a point.

Fourteen Strivers will compete at the YMCA Gymnastic Nationals in Toledo, Ohio at the end of June. All 36 Striver gymnasts qualified for Nationals. The team is coached by Nikki Pollman, Gerritt DeJonge, Amy Gamble, Heather Haese and Mikki Rankin.
