The Door County YMCA Striver’s Gymnastic Team attended the State Tournament on March 19 and 20 in Sheboygan, Wis. The team returned to Sturgeon Bay with nine individual medals and numerous top 15 placings.
Medals were awarded to the top 30 percent of participants in each Level and age group. Individual Medals for the Striver team included: Level 3 gymnasts – Katie Frank placed 7th on vault (9.45) and Mya Ploor placed 8th on vault (9.45 tie); Level 4 gymnast – Kayla Counard placed 9th on floor (9.2) and 11th on vault (9.15); Prep Optional gymnasts – Destini Hein placed 6th on floor (9.10), Ruthie Kolb placed 4th on vault (8.25) and beam (9.25), Ellie Helm placed 10th on floor (8.75) and Christy Choronzy placed 3rd on bars (9.4); Level 8 gymnast – Rychia Bosman placed 4th on vault (8.65).
The Prep Optional Team placed 4th as a Team.
In addition to medals, many of the Strivers placed within the top ten. These athletes include: Level 3 gymnast – Reetika Jandu placed 8th on vault (9.35); Level 6 gymnasts – Ally Dickson finished 9th on floor (8.275), Jackie Mosgaller ranked 7th on beam (8.125), 8th on vault (8.125) and 9th on floor (7.80); Level 7 gymnast – Abby Thiede placed 7th on floor (9.175) and 7th on vault (8.70).
Level 6 gymnast Jenna Seiler was unable to compete due to a hand injury.
The Striver’s Team had 20 girls qualify for the YMCA Nationals that will be held in San Diego, California June 22 – 25. Making the trip will be Level 6 gymnasts Ally Dickson, Jenna Seiler and Jackie Mosgaller, Level 7 gymnast Abby Thiede, Level 8 gymnast Rychia Bosman and Prep Optional gymnasts Ellie Helm and Christy Choronzy.
