Student Councils Raise Money for Water Well

by Jonathan Bass

Door County’s student councils are raising money to pay for a freshwater well to be dug in Africa for a community in need of clean water. The organization that digs the well is Water for Life.

Last year Washington Island, Gibraltar and Sturgeon Bay schools partnered to support the project, and this year Sevastopol has joined as well. To date, roughly $1,800 has been raised out of the $4,800 goal, through school-wide coin wars, bake sales and other events.

Donations toward the Dig a Well project can be dropped off at Washington Island School, 888 Main Road, Washington Island; Gibraltar School, 3924 Hwy 42, Fish Creek; Sturgeon Bay School, 1230 Michigan St., Sturgeon Bay; and Sevastopol School, 4550 Hwy 57, Sturgeon Bay. Earmark donations to Student Council/Dig a Well.
