Sturgeon Bay Area Crop Walk for Hunger

On Saturday, September 27, 2008, Sturgeon Bay area churches will join hands – and feet – to help the hungry around the block and around the world. Through donations and walkers who solicit pledges, this annual interfaith and community event raises funds to combat hunger locally, in the greater United States, and in more than 80 countries worldwide. Twenty-five percent of funds raised will go directly to Feed My People in Sturgeon Bay. Seventy-five percent will be used by Church World Service to assist hungry populations around the world.

All are welcome to participate, as the Crop Walk is not a sports competition or a religious event, but rather a symbolic walk, ride, and run to be in solidarity with those who walk long distances for meager food and water supplies.

Walkers may choose a one-, three-, or five-mile course. Or, participants may run or bicycle on a course in Potawatomi State Park. Everyone is encouraged to ask friends, relatives, neighbors, co-workers to sponsor their efforts or walk, ride, or run with them.

Registration for the event will commence at 9 am, with the walk starting at 9:30 am. The walk will begin and end at Bay View Lutheran Church, 340 West Maple Ave., in Sturgeon Bay.
