Sturgeon Bay Arts Board Seeking Input

The Sturgeon Bay Local Arts Board (LAB) is organizing an Open Forum for Creative Ideas to encourage community members to provide input on how they’d like to see various forms of public art within the city.

“We are fortunate to have very intelligent, talented and creative people living in our community,” said Helen Bacon, a Sturgeon Bay alder and LAB chair. “The possibilities are endless.”

Two recent additions to public art in Sturgeon Bay include “Crosswind Approach” (also known as “The Pelican”) by Steven Haas, an eight-foot-tall aluminum sculpture on the east waterfront; and “Woolly,” a 10-foot metal mammoth sculpture by artist Carl Vanderheyden settled on the waterfront at Bay View Park on the west side. Several other public-art projects are currently in the works, but LAB wants to remain open to ideas from the community.

The forum will take place March 9, 8:30 am, in the second-floor meeting chambers of City Hall. Call Helen Bacon at 920.493.7200 to find out more.
