Sturgeon Bay Booster Club to host chili cook-off

• The Sturgeon Bay Booster Club will host a chili cook-off featuring chili from several local restaurants Feb. 25 from 5-9pm in the Middle School commons. Winners will be announced after the third quarter of the varsity basketball game against the Algoma Wolves. Call 920.743.7123 to help with the event.

• Open enrollment for families that want to apply for enrollment to a district other than their district of residency for the 2011-12 school year runs from Feb. 7 – 25. Open enrollment ends at 4pm, Feb. 25.

• Wisconsin Trails magazine is seeking nominations for Wisconsin’s best towns. Nominate your favorite town by describing how it’s unique and why you would recommend it based on spring and summer travel and activities at http://www.wisconsintrails.com. The winners will be published in the May/June 2011 edition of Wisconsin Trails. Entry deadline is March 15.

• The Door County Economic Development Corporation (DCEDC) will offer free, one-on-one business counseling in Northern Door on Tuesday, Feb. 15, from 8am-noon at the Sister Bay Fire Station. An appointment is requested and can be made by contacting Sam Perlman at 920.743.3113 x 204 or via email at [email protected]. Walk-ins are also welcome as available.

• Three candidates will be on the ballot for Gibraltar’s April school board race. Sally Pfeifer, Joe Warner, and Fred Anderson will run for two available seats. Anderson has served 18 years on the board, while Pfeifer is in her 9th year. Warner previously served from 2007 – 2010.

• The Clearing Folk School is offering a class for reluctant fundraisers in Sturgeon Bay Feb. 8. Drawing on his two decades of experience in philanthropy, Bret Bicoy of the Door County Community Foundation will explore different ways a board member can be an effective advocate and fund-raiser for his or her favorite charity.
