The Sturgeon Bay Common Council agreed May 16 to transfer $50,000 in excess cable-television funds to the general fund operating and capital fund computer budgets.
City treasurer/finance director Val Clarizio said the city is in the middle of a major technology upgrade for which the transferred funds will be used.
“Through that process,” she said, “we’ve learned things that we didn’t know when we went in, and we’ve also discovered things, and identified opportunities to maybe enhance the security, the software and the equipment that we currently have. Some of these things we did not expect, and others, we really didn’t fully understand the scope of it until we started working with both the county and the new third-party provider.”
Effective Jan. 1, the city began contracting with Heartland Business Systems for technology services. From 2008 until 2022, it contracted with the County of Door. Clarizio said the migration to Heartland resulted in “some issues not foreseen.”
