Sturgeon Bay High Coffee House Night

The Fine Arts Department at Sturgeon Bay High School is holding a “Can You Hear Us Now?!” Coffee House Night on Jan. 17 at 7 pm. Students, alumni, faculty and school board members will provide entertainment. Coffee and gourmet treats from Kick Coffee and Gourmet A Go Go of Sturgeon Bay will be available for purchase. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for students with all proceeds being used to improve the SBHS Auditorium sound system. All are invited to attend.

Parents, students and other friends of the SBHS performing arts program have been raising funds to replace the school’s outdated sound system with new, state-of-the-art equipment. The goal for the project is $46,900 and the group has raised just under $42,000. They are hoping to announce the completion of the campaign at the 2015 All-School Musical in February.

According to Theresa Kay Meredith, co-chair of the effort, improvements to the sound system are sorely needed. “Those who have attended performances at the auditorium know that the sound system as it exists today is dreadfully inadequate. Too few microphones and too little amplification exist for every performer to be heard and directors have to sacrifice some performers so that others are audible. This greatly diminishes the quality of the entire show and the experience of the performers and audience alike.”
