Sturgeon Bay Honors Maritime Heritage with Maritime Week

Building on the success of the inaugural celebration, Sturgeon Bay once again honors its maritime heritage with “Sturgeon Bay Maritime Week: A Salute to the U.S. Coast Guard,” from July 26 to August 5.

The week honors the area’s local Coast Guard personnel for their service and many contributions to the community.

New to Maritime Week is the Maritime Regatta on July 28, 7:30 am – 4 pm, hosted by the Sturgeon Bay Rowing Club. Registration for the Sturgeon Bay Maritime Regatta begins on July 27.

Other Maritime Week activities include a picnic at Sunset Park for all Coast Guard personnel and their families, the Mariner Award Dinner, the Family Maritime Parade, a concert by the Peninsula Symphonic Community Band, the Coast Guard Day Golf Tournament, “TGIT” Sail Racing, and Denis Sullivan cruises.

Also, the “Shadows of Our Maritime History” exhibit will open at Sturgeon Bay City Hall, the Door County Classic and Wooden Boat Festival will take place as well as the Sikaflex Challenge boat building completion.

Evening on the Bay events at the Sturgeon Bay Yacht Club coincide with Maritime week and include a dinghy “poker run,” live music, the annual “Venetian Night” boat parade and fireworks.

Maritime Week concludes with the Classic and Wooden Boat Festival. Tickets for the festival cover both days and include admission to the Maritime Museum and all Boat Festival activities, as well as deck tours of the tall-ship Denis Sullivan and the restored tug John Purves.
