Sturgeon Bay Hosts Maritime Festival

The first annual Sturgeon Bay Maritime Festival will include many events to honor local Coast Guard personnel and their families. Officially titled the “Sturgeon Bay Maritime Festival: Salute to the U.S. Coast Guard,” the week of community events will kick off with the Sail Thru the Avenues Side Walk Sale on July 28. On July 30 a picnic for active duty and retired Coast Guard personnel and their families will be held at Sunset Park.

The second annual Mariner Award Dinner at the Sturgeon Bay Yacht Club will take place July 31. The museum is seeking nominations for the award. This year’s dinner will also honor the local Coast Guard Person of the Year.

August 1, the Maritime Museum will open the “Sufficient for Life Saving” exhibit, chronicling the work of the Board of Life-Saving Appliances.

August 4, The Coast Guard Day Golf Tournament will feature a four-person scramble format at the Idlewild Golf Course. The cost is $50 per player. Also on August 4, the Sturgeon Bay Yacht Club will host the “TGIT” Sail Racing and a dinner buffet.

On August 5 young sailors will take to the water for the Sail Training Foundation youth sail racing and games at the Sturgeon Bay Yacht Club from 10 am – 2 pm.

The Sturgeon Bay Yacht Club will also host “Evening on the Bay” events including a dinghy poker run, kid’s games, live music, and the annual “Venetian Night” boat parade followed by fireworks.
