Sturgeon Bay Maritime Week Set for July 25 – Aug. 4

Sturgeon Bay will once again honor its rich maritime heritage with a diverse collection of entertaining and fun events from July 25 to August 4. Officially titled “Sturgeon Bay Maritime Week: A Salute to the U.S. Coast Guard,” the celebration includes many new and long-standing events.

Maritime Week gets underway with the Sail Thru the Avenues Sidewalk Sale on July 25.

On July 27, a picnic at Coast Guard Station Sturgeon for all active, reserve, retired and former Coast Guard personnel and their families will be held, starting at 11 am.

July 28 is the date for the fourth annual Mariner Award Dinner at the Sturgeon Bay Yacht Club. The Mariner Award recognizes individuals, both living and deceased, who’ve had a significant, positive and lasting impact on the Door County maritime community. The public is invited and encouraged to attend. The dinner will also honor the local Coast Guard Person of the Year. Call 920.743.5958 for reservations.

Other events include the Family Maritime Parade, the Harmony by the Bay concert series with a musical patriotic tribute, the Salute to the Coast Guard Golf Tournament, “TGIT” Sail Racing and dinner buffet at the Sturgeon Bay Yacht Club that evening, “Paint the Bay” plein air painting event, the Coast Guard Auxiliary’s robot boat “Coastie,” the Museum’s “Pirates – Ship to Shore” exhibit, and Evening on the Bay at the Yacht Club with a boat parade and fireworks.

Maritime Week wraps up on Sunday with the second day of the Classic and Wooden Boat Festival. The day’s activities are traditionally highlighted by the “sea trials” of the often wild and wacky boats constructed by the Sikaflex Challenge teams.

DCMM is also looking for new and gently used maritime items or nautical artifacts to be sold at the Boathouse Sale, held during the Classic & Wooden Boat Festival August 3 – 4. Drop off your items at the Maritime Museum prior to July 22. For more information, call 920.743.5958, email [email protected] or visit dcmm.org.
