Sturgeon Bay Police Department Warns Against Scammers Trying to Access Computers

Recently, Sturgeon Bay Police took a scam report where a caller with a heavy foreign accent attempted to gain remote access to the person’s computer. The caller implied the person was having problems with their computer/Windows software, and they could correct the problem with their repair service. To gain the trust, the caller said he was a Christian and would not scam them. Police would like to remind you to never give anyone remote access to your computer, especially a person who calls you out of the blue. Some local computer repair companies do use remote access, if you sign up for their services. Always assume it is a scam or fraud attempt, if you receive a cold call from a company stating they can repair your computer and/or want remote access. If you are having computer troubles, use a local repair company.
