Sturgeon Bay Powerlifters Deadlifting their Way to State

On Dec. 2 the Sturgeon Bay High School powerlifting team participated in the first regional powerlifting meet of the year in Omro. Fourteen lifters competed and 11 placed in the top five of their weight classes.

Additionally, six lifters qualified for state. Female qualifiers are:  Yadira Ortiz in the 97lb class with a 135lb squat, 70lb bench and 170lb deadlift; Brenna Zuehlke in the 165lb class with a 275lb squat, 160lb bench and a 315lb deadlift; and Delaney Shortreed in the 198lb class with a 205lb squat, 110lb bench, and 290lb deadlift. Male qualifiers are:  Luke Brinkman in the 198lb class with a 450lb squat, 260lb bench and a 535lb deadlift; Nathan LeRoy in the 275lb class with a 455lb squat, 260lb bench, and 480lb deadlift; and Andrew Burkart in the 275lb class with a 330lb squat, 250lb bench and 440lb deadlift. Brinkman and Zuehlke won best male and female lifters of the meet.

The team will participate in the next regional meet at Xavier High School in Appleton on Jan. 6, 2018.
