On January 23, 2014, Sturgeon Bay was officially proclaimed by Congress to be “A Coast Guard City.” Sturgeon Bay is the first city in Wisconsin to be so honored. In naval speak, Bravo Zulu (well done) Sturgeon Bay! To date, only sixteen communities nationwide have been designated by Congress as Coast Guard Cities. A celebration has been planned for May 9 – 11.
May 9: Admiral’s Reception (by invitation only) at the Door County Maritime Museum, 6: 30 to 8 pm
May 10: Coast Guard City Ceremony, Sawyer Park (36 S. Neenah Avenue), 11 am; Coast Guard City Picnic, Sawyer Park, following the ceremony
May 11: Mother’s Day Community Breakfast, Sturgeon Bay Fire Station/City Hall, 8 to 11 am
