Sturgeon Bay Seeks Applicants for Available Liquor License

The City of Sturgeon Bay is now accepting applications for three available Class B liquor licenses, which will be effective from the date of issuance through June 30, 2023.

One license was previously allocated for use where fire destroyed the former Butch’s Bar in February, but the city’s Community Protection and Services (CPS) Committee, which will consider all completed applications, did not recommend earlier this month to issue or hold a license for the vacant lot at 112 S. 3rd Ave., where that bar once stood. Butch’s Bar, which relocated to the former Nautical Inn at 234 Kentucky St., received the liquor license allocated for that location.

City Administrator Josh VanLieshout said those interested in applying for the available Combination Class B Beer and Liquor licenses should submit a fully completed alcoholic beverage retail license application, along with a supplemental application detailing the scope of the proposed restaurant, bar, tavern or other establishment for which a license would be used.

“The CPS Committee will evaluate the applications and determine if the proposed projects are consistent and in the interest of the public order, peace and welfare,” VanLieshout said. “If the proposals are found to be consistent with the public order, peace and welfare, then they [will] be recommended to go into a lottery drawing.”

Applications that are not filled out completely will not be accepted. Application forms are available at sturgeonbaywi.org and at the Sturgeon Bay City Hall, 421 Michigan St., Monday-Friday, 8 am – 4:30 pm. Submit completed applications to the city clerk at 421 Michigan St., Sturgeon Bay, WI 54235. The deadline to submit completed applications is July 28.
