Sturgeon Bay Shipyard Tours Set for May 3

The Rotary Club of Sturgeon Bay presents the 22nd annual Sturgeon Bay Shipyard Tours on May 3 from 9 am to 2 pm.

The community is invited to experience an insider’s view of the shipbuilding industry in Sturgeon Bay. For more than a century this industry has been integral to Door County’s maritime history and economy. The shipbuilders of Sturgeon Bay have designed, built and repaired vessels – commercial, military and pleasure craft – that have traveled to ports around the globe.

Three facilities, all located on First Avenue in downtown Sturgeon Bay, will participate: Palmer Johnson Yachts, Bay Shipbuilding, and CenterPointe Yacht Services. Visitors may start the tour at any one of these facilities and see the efforts of many professionals who work in Door County’s ship repair and construction businesses first hand. Guided walking tours are offered at Bay Shipbuilding and CenterPointe Yacht Services LLC, while self-guided walking tours are offered at Palmer Johnson Yachts. Transportation will be provided between tour sites.

Tickets will be available at all three shipyard entry gates on the day of the event. Ticket prices are $12 per adult and $6 for students ages 11-17; children aged ten and under are free.

Back by popular demand, the United States Coast Guard will open their 140-foot USCG cutter Mobile Bay for guided tours free of charge at the Graham Park dock in Sturgeon Bay, 9 am – 2 pm.

New this year, the rescue vessel from the Sturgeon Bay Canal Station of the Coast Guard will be available for tours at Graham Park.

Also new for this year, attendees are eligible to receive 50 percent off the admission to the Door County Maritime Museum during this Shipyard Tour weekend, with purchase of a Shipyard Tour ticket.

The event is brought to you by the Sturgeon Bay Rotary Club and all proceeds will benefit Door County Rotary-sponsored scholarships and other community service programs conducted by Rotary Youth Interact.
