Sturgeon Bay Teens Named to National Underwater Hockey Team

The Door County Sturgeons Underwater Hockey team will send three teenagers to compete globally this summer. Sturgeons players Abby Banks, Molly Banks and Paige Thompson have earned places on the USA U-19 underwater hockey team. This select team will represent the United States at the youth world underwater hockey tournament this July in Hobart, Australia.

The Sturgeons, along with players from Denver and San Francisco, will be coached by Kendall and Susan Banks. Top youth players from countries around the world – including Argentina, Australia, Canada, Columbia, France, Great Britain, New Zealand, South Africa and Turkey – will compete in the nine-day tournament from July 14-22. The team will be the first U-19 women’s team to represent the USA at this level.

The team has a Go Fund Me campaign to offset the cost of gear, travel and lodging at gofundme.com/u19uwh. Tax-deductible contributions are also appreciated and can be made to the USOA (Underwater Society of America) with a note designating U19 Women. For more information about the team, tournament, or ways to help, contact Kendall Banks at [email protected].
