Sturgeon Bay Utilities Celebrated Public Power Week

Sturgeon Bay Utilities hosted a recycling event at the utility office on Oct. 4. Hundreds of Sturgeon Bay Utility customers participated, dropping off a total of 22,000 pounds of electronics, batteries and lightbulbs. The utility worked with Norsec and Lamp Recyclers to ensure that these items were recycled responsibly.

“The recycling event provided a convenient and fun way for people from the community to keep this type of waste out of landfills and do something positive for the environment,” said General Manager Jim Stawicki.

The utility hosted the event to celebrate Public Power Week. Occurring yearly during the first week of October, Public Power Week is a national event that celebrates more than 2,000 locally owned, not-for-profit electric utilities that collectively provide electricity to 49 million Americans.

“One of the hallmarks of public power is a commitment to the community. The recycling event was a good way for utility employees to connect with local residents, provide them with a useful service, and encourage them to recycle.”

The utility hosts the recycling event, which is open to the public, twice a year. The next event is scheduled for April 4, 2018. For more information, call the utility office at 920.746.2820 Monday through Thursday between 8 am and 4 pm or Friday between 8 am and 3:30 pm.
