Sturgeon Bay West Side School Sold, Will be Redeveloped for Housing

For decades it has begged the question – what is happening with that old school?

Now there appears to be an answer for the old Sturgeon Bay west side school at 17 West Pine St. Andy Dumke’s Northpointe Development has purchased the building and aims to redevelop it into 10 housing units, with an additional 30 units built adjacent to it.

Mayor David Ward said Dumke has done a lot of historic rehabilitation work.

Dumke will have to go through the Planned Unit Development process because the proposal includes more than 25 units. In his memo to the Plan Commission, Christopher Sullivan-Robinson, city planning and zoning administrator, pointed out that the project would involve Dumke purchasing some or all of the west side ball field from the city. The field is used for adult softball. The city will have to consider whether to replace the field, which will require the Parks and Recreation Board and the Finance, Purchasing and Building Committee to weight in on the project.

The Plan Commission got its first glance at the concept Wednesday.
