Sturgeon Bay’s 2020 Commencement Plans

Sturgeon Bay High School’s Class of 2020 commencement ceremony – scheduled for May 30, 1 pm – will be prerecorded and broadcast through various social media outlets. It will include remarks by Superintendent Dan Tjernagel, salutatorian Fletcher Hubbard, valedictorian Nicholas Herbst and Principal Robert Nickel; and the Senior Night slide show

A boat procession will take the place of the live commencement ceremony, and it will be live-streamed and launch from Madelyn Marina, 1651 Memorial Dr.

Each senior will be called to the pier, where board president Teri Hooker will present a diploma and move the graduate’s tassel. A photographer will take an official photo.

Each graduate will then board a boat for a short ride in the bay. There will be one or two graduates per boat plus a driver. Graduates agree to abide by all safe-boating procedures and instructions. Coast Guard, DNR, police department and fire department personnel will be on hand.

Members of the community may observe from any public property while observing social distancing and are encouraged to wear Clipper apparel or red and white. Parents, guardians, and family members should not gather at the marina; only graduates and those directly involved in the boat procession will be allowed to gather there. The rain date is May 31, 1 pm.
