Sturgeon Bay’s Circle Singers of Hope Host Choir Gathering

The Circle Singers of Hope UCC in Sturgeon Bay are hosting the second annual Great Lakes Threshold Choir Gathering. Women are invited to attend this Threshold Singers workshop the weekend of June 23 – 25 at Hope United Church of Christ, located at 141 South 12th Avenue, Sturgeon Bay.

Kate Munger, the founder of the original Threshold singing groups, will lead some of the singing. Threshold Singers are groups of a capella singers who sing for people in need of care and comfort. There are more than 100 Threshold Choirs active across the United States. The choirs grew out of Munger’s desire to bring the ancient therapy of song to those who are ill, grieving or dying.

Singing groups from a dozen Midwestern states are expected to gather in Sturgeon Bay. In addition to bringing together singers from many groups, the workshop will introduce new singers to this ministry. The sessions, featuring the singing of simple rounds and harmonies, will take place on Friday evening, June 24 and all day Saturday, June 25. No singing experience is required. There is a $25 fee for the workshop.

A session entitled “Ways for Church Staff and Threshold Choirs to Work Together in Their Communities” on will take place Friday, June 24 from 1:30 – 3 pm.
