Door County’s underwater hockey team, the Sturgeons, took first place in their division in the U.S. Nationals Underwater Hockey Tournament. The three-day tournament was hosted at the University of Minnesota and included 26 teams of various divisions from across the country.
The Sturgeons lost only three games throughout the tournament, and beat Seattle with a score of 6-3 for the gold medal of the C division. The Sturgeons are led by coach Kendall Banks, and have been a club team for only two years. The team consisted of Tim Feist, Kendall Banks, Steven Kars, Rick Wiesner, Robert Vernon, David Foulds, Molly Banks, Paul Filar, Albert Weber, Brendon Ewers and Trisha Filar.
The Sturgeons meet on Fridays at the Sturgeon Bay YMCA at 5:15 pm and welcome new players of all levels. For more information visit sbunderwaterhockey.com.
