Body Found in Car Pulled from Lake

Door County rescue personnel pulled a car from the waters of Lake Michigan off Northport Pier, the Door County docking site of the Washington Island Ferry, on Friday. The mud-caked car matched the description of the 2013 Buick LaCrosse owned by Earnest H. Moore, 87, of Northlake, Ill., who was last seen by family members on Nov. 16, 2015. Moore is known to have been in Door County on Nov. 17, although he had no connections here.

The vehicle was found in approximately 16 feet of water, about 50 yards north of the Pier in the Town of Liberty Grove. The vehicle was extricated by the Door County Dive Team.

The Door County Sheriff’s Department said a lone male was found inside the vehicle. Positive identification, along with a cause and manner of death are pending an autopsy. No foul play is suspected.
