“Summer Field” Goes Up for Auction

One look at Egg Harbor artist Ginnie Cappaert’s artwork and it is no secret she is inspired by her surroundings. Her minimalist abstract landscapes speak of a quaint, quiet and peaceful peninsula that her gallery, Cappaert Contemporary Gallery, now calls home.

It may have been Door County’s beauty that drew her here in the winter of 2015, but it has been the generosity of the community that surrounds her — strangers, friends, fellow artists and gallery owners alike — that kept her here.

That spirit of generosity is what Cappaert hopes to pass along as this issue’s selected cover artist.

“I think Door County is very strong in the giving and sharing traits and personalities,” she said. “In fact, when I opened my gallery last year and started meeting people, mostly the residents, other gallery owners, other artists, I was really blown away by the kindness and the openness and the sharing and the thoughtfulness of all of the people. It was quite refreshing.”

Despite its title, “Summer Field,” Cappaert’s oil and cold wax on wood piece is a subtle and serene blend of the very best Door County has to offer in all seasons — the icy blues, bright whites, refreshing greens and vivid oranges — “a breath of fresh air,” as she says.

The painting (30” x 30” on wood panel) will be on display during the summer of 2016 and will be auctioned to raise funds for the local charity of the winning bidder’s choice. The minimum bid is $2,000. Please contact the Door County Living office at (920) 839-2121 for current viewing information.

“Door County is an amazing place and I believe it’s the people that reside and work here that make it so,” Cappaert said. “I’m just really excited to share my work and my talents and my passion and to be a part of the whole part of the Door County arts community.”
