Sunshine House to Repurpose Conference Room For Students

Leadership Door County has chosen Sunshine House as the focus of its Class of 2020 project. 

Sunshine House will repurpose and upgrade a former conference room to create a feeling of learning and excitement and to accommodate the growing interest in its classes, including Math for Life, Job Club, Skills to Pay the Bills, and Biz 101. Tami Walls, community education coordinator, has seen a significant increase in participation in her classes. Her Biz 101 class, for instance, recently developed and opened Sunny’s Snack Shop. 

“We want to provide a place where those who come to learn feel comfortable and have the tools and resources needed to succeed. Before we moved into this conference room, we held classes in our cafeteria, and that presented many distractions,” Walls said. 

With the help of Leadership Door County and expertise from people at local schools, the organization will create an atmosphere that feels like a classroom.
