Healing From Loss, a grief support group for men, will be offered by Bay View and Tanum Forest Lutheran Churches on March 5. Men in the community and surrounding area are invited to hear from experts and others who are also experiencing grief. They may share or just listen. The group is free and open to all men, and it is not church-based. Light refreshments will be served.
“Men express their emotions and grieve differently than women,” said Peter Mannoja, pastor of the Tanum Forest Lutheran Church. LouAnn Brown, parish nurse for Bay View Lutheran Church, started a grief support group called Surviving the Loss of a Spouse, which is in its fourth year.
“We noticed that men were generally uncomfortable with tears in a group of women,” Brown said. “Appleton has a very successful grief support group for men only, and we are eager to offer that option to our community as well. We needed to find a qualified facilitator, and we certainly have that with Pastor Peter Mannoja offering to lead the group.”
Meetings will be held at the Tanum Forest Lutheran Church, 6140 County Rd OO in Sturgeon Bay, on the first Tuesday of every month, 10-11 am.
