Survey to Determine Interest in New Sports and Rec Center

Due to feedback related to a growing interest for year-round sports and recreational facility space in northern Door County, a public survey has been released to gather feedback from residents and visitors. The survey aims to identify the scope of a facility in the Sister Bay or Baileys Harbor area that would provide access to indoor and/or outdoor sports and recreation areas including, but not limited to, sport courts, walking/jogging track, ice rink, swimming pool, small studio space, as well as indoor playground areas.

The survey is sponsored by INDOOR ACTIVE, a small business that promotes and sponsors leagues, events and classes for youth and adults in northern Door County. There are several public and private facilities that offer room for sport and recreation, including Gibraltar Area Schools, the YMCA, various church and town facilities, outdoor sports complexes and private studio spaces. However, limited size and space in these facilities limits the ability to accommodate the growing health and wellness lifestyle that many residents and visitors are looking to maintain year-round.

There is no better time than now to bring people together and assess sport and recreation needs and determine whether the development of a new multi-use facility is feasible.

The survey can be completed online at indooractivesports.com. For more information, email Rachel Stollenwerk at [email protected].
