Architects Virge Temme and Meghan Hawkins, both specialists in sustainable homes and passive-house construction, will host an architectural tour of four high-performance homes in Egg Harbor, Baileys Harbor and Sister Bay on Oct. 15, 10 am – 4 pm.
The homes on display are of diverse design and construction techniques, all aimed at improving energy performance, lowering energy bills, reducing climate impact and creating healthier, quieter and cleaner dwellings. One-hour tours at each house include lessons on climate-specific design, solar electric, insulation, air sealing, moisture sealing and HVAC strategies.
Temme is nationally known as a leader in Earth-friendly building and design. Green Building and Design magazine and the U.S. Green Building Council recognized her with a Women in Sustainability Leadership Award in 2017. Hawkins is an architect and passive-home consultant and, as a founder of Evolve Design Workshop in Madison, designs homes across the state.
The tour is a fundraiser for the Climate Change Coalition of Door County. Tickets are $30 per person, and registration is required by calling Jeff Lutsey at 920.217.4304.
