Saturday, May 21 area young people ages 8 to 17 will have a chance to take to the skies when the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) Chapter 535 will host a Young Eagles Flight Rally at the Ephraim-Gibraltar Airport. A rain date is scheduled for Sunday, May 22. Grilled brats, burgers and hot dogs will be served.
Along with flight rallies, EAA members will fly Young Eagles on an individual basis free of charge. Pilots will also explain how airplanes work and how pilots ensure safety.
Following the flight, each young person will receive a certificate recognizing them as an official Young Eagle. Their name will then be entered into the “World’s Largest Logbook,” which is on permanent display at the EAA Air Adventure Museum in Oshkosh, WI.
“We hope to build one-to-one relationships between pilots and young people, giving a new generation a chance to learn more about the possibilities that exist in the world of aviation,” said Tim Halbrook, spokesman for the event.
Those attending the flight rally are asked come to the airport at 8:30 am to register for their flight. Flights will begin at 9 am, weather permitting, with registration closing at 1:30 pm.
