Talk of the Town Returns to Birch Creek

Birch Creek Music Performance Center will host Talk of the Town for the second consecutive year as part of the Music Academy’s 2016 Fall Concert Series for Academy Scholarships.

Talk of the Town will return Sept. 3 for a concert in the Dutton Concert Barn at Birch Creek. The group, from the Green Bay area, has performed nationally with artists like Pete Fountain, Bob Hope, the Green Bay Packers Band, and in New Orleans on Bourbon Street. Talk of the Town performs many jazz and swing standards with an authentic flavor, nodding to great artists such as Pete Fountain, Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, and Count Basie. The concert will take place at 7:30 pm. Kevin Van Ess, the leader of the band, is excited to return to Birch Creek.

“Playing at Birch Creek last year was a great time with a great audience,” Van Ess said. “We’re going to bring New Orleans back up to Birch Creek this year, and we also plan to tribute our performance to the late and great Pete Fountain.”

The Fall Concert Series will feature the MC Swingtet on Aug. 27, Howard Levy on Sept. 17, Janet Planet on Oct. 1, and a holiday-themed concert with brass and percussion players from Birch Creek’s faculty on Dec. 3. All Fall Concert Series events will fund scholarships for Birch Creek students. For more information or for tickets, visit birchcreek.org/tickets or call 920.868.3763.
