Tammy Sternard Enters Race for Sheriff

Lt. Tammy Sternard is the second candidate to join the race for Door County sheriff, joining Chief Deputy Pat McCarty in the race for the position upon the impending retirement of Sheriff Steve Delarwelle. Sternard has served in the department for 25 years, with more than a decade of that in administrative roles. She currently serves as the jail lieutenant. “My decision to run is centered primarily on my belief in a strong collaborative approach when dealing with issues in our community,” Sternard said. “I understand the importance of surrounding yourself with good people and truly believe working together we can accomplish great things.” Sternard was the first woman to run for sheriff in Door County when she ran against Delarwelle in 2014, when she won 43 percent of the vote. She also serves on the Southern Door County School Board. “I feel my years of leadership experience, education, training, community involvement, and history of outstanding service have helped prepare me to take on this very important role,” Sternard said. “I would be honored to have your help and support in this very exciting journey.”
